Perdue advances resin transfer molding through machine learning and simulation

Aug 7, 2026

Master’s student Russell Perdue is developing computational modeling and control strategies to eliminate resin flow variations during resin transfer molding (RTM). Using Liquid Injection Molding Simulation (LIMS)—software created at UD by Suresh Advani and Pavel Simacek—Perdue combines machine learning methods with modeling techniques to address complex part geometries. He is also building flow control software incorporating passive and real-time control strategies for academic and industrial use.

This research helps composite manufacturers replace trial-and-error setups with reliable modeling, increasing component yields while reducing material defects.

Contact the Center for Composite Materials to learn more about integrating LIMS software and RTM flow control tools into your manufacturing workflow.
