Funding Agency: National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)
Partners: ILC Dover, Composites Automation, NASA Johnson Space Center, CCM
Building on decades of collaboration with NASA, CCM supports the development of next-generation space suit composite components meeting stringent NASA functional requirements. CCM contributions include materials selection and characterization emphasizing durability, flexibility, and environmental resistance, component design including optimized lay-up and metal/composite interfaces, tooling design and fabrication, component manufacturing and full scale impact and cyclic pressure testing. Recent efforts include composite Hard Upper Torso (CHUT) components for NASA’s xEMU program and earlier Z-2 spacesuit prototypes.
