International Student Internships
Interested in conducting research at an internationally recognized center of excellence in composites, manufacturing science and materials development? At CCM, self-supported students from universities outside of the U.S. are invited to work alongside multidisciplinary teams in our state-of-the-art Composites Manufacturing Science Laboratory. Join us in Delaware to experience a leading U.S. research environment while expanding your understanding of American academic culture and society.
CCM research internships last a minimum of six months and offer an exceptional blend of academic insight and laboratory practice. As an international intern, you’ll become part of a dynamic community where hands-on research can lead to industry connections, co-authored papers and the opportunity to present your work at CCM’s annual Research Symposium.
Explore potential research areas for interns
At CCM, international interns work with leading researchers across the full lifecycle of composite materials, from understanding their behavior to designing and manufacturing next-generation products.
Mechanical testing
Evaluate how materials perform under real-world conditions, including:
- Coupon and sub-element characterization to measure strength, stiffness and durability
- Full-scale testing, including access to a high-energy 37 kJ drop tower for impact research
Materials development
Engineer stronger, lighter and more sustainable composites by studying:
- Fibers, resins and interface behavior
- Chemical characterization, cure behavior and dynamic properties
Process development
Learn how composite parts are produced using industry-scale equipment and automation technologies such as:
- Prepreg line operations
- Automated manufacturing techniques
- Autoclave and liquid molding processes
- Tape placement and filament winding
- Pultrusion and additive manufacturing
Design, analysis and modeling
Work with cutting-edge computational tools to support product development through:
- Structural design
- Process modeling
- Performance prediction and optimization
