Spacesuit Composite Structures

CCM has a long history of research and prototype development in composite structures for space suits, starting with the Z‑2 Spacesuit Prototype (ILC Dover led program). More recently, CCM delivered two (2) small and one (1) large Composite Hard Upper Torso (CHUT) components for the xEMU suit program to NASA Johnson Space Center for full suit integration and testing. Working with NASA’s requirements, the CCM-led program conducted materials testing and allowables generation, composite design and analysis, process development and full-scale prototype testing and validation. The program led to the delivery of the full-scale prototypes meeting geometric tolerates and all interfaces necessary for full suit integration. Final program deliverables included complete Technology Data Packages (TDP) for the CHUT.
