Bridging discovery to deployment in advanced materials

Aug 7, 2026

The University of Delaware recently hosted senior leaders and scientists from DuPont to explore new pathways for strategic research collaboration, talent development, and next-generation materials innovation.

At the heart of the visit was the UD Center For Composite Materials, where industry partners engaged directly with cutting-edge research capabilities and student researchers working at the intersection of science, manufacturing, and application.

A key highlight was TuFF (Tailored Universal Feedstock for Forming) – a UD-CCM-invented composite architecture enabling lightweight, ultra-strong, and highly formable materials. TuFF represents a shift in how high-performance composites can be designed, manufactured, and scaled for real-world impact across aerospace, automotive, defense, and advanced manufacturing sectors.

The discussions underscored a shared vision: accelerating the translation of materials innovation into scalable technologies while strengthening the pipeline of engineers and scientists ready to solve industry-critical challenges.

Partnerships like this are how advanced materials move from concept to capability.
